SPSound & Sonostruct~ @ Smart Project Space, 08-01-2010
06-01-2010

After a successful first edition Sonostruct~ presents a brand new edition of Audible Dust this Friday the 8th of January. This time Sonostruct~ collaborates with SPSound to present another mixed evening of audio and visual performances. The evening will take place at SMART Project Space in Amsterdam.

On this edition we have the following acts:

Gijs Gieskes is an artist and musician working with circuit-bending and old-school computer graphics. His work and live performances are a fantastic example of the places hardware hacking can take you. Gieskes will present his CamSeq-1, a device constructed from numerous motors and lights, in which tin cans with a variety of interiors (e.g., spirals, puppets and neon wires) are set into motion and captured by a small video camera. The camera output is then projected as the visual part of the performance – an interesting take on VJing, to say the least. The device is synchronized to a Gameboy running the music program LSDJ.

Kassen and Rob Bothof create an improvised live performance of glitchy beatscapes. They use two self-made music sequencers layered with found sounds from the ether, the internet or wherever a recorder happened to be present, which are then accentuated by scratching and manipulating samples and synthesis on the spot. This is music aerobics for brainiacs into tech-no-logic dance music.

Yurki graduated in Electronic Music Composition at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) and studied Composition at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague for one year. Having played piano since he was a child, Yurki’s interest in the instrument continues as he now explores new methods of combining piano and electronics. The result is a new instrument with a bell-like sound as the base that then comes together with a completely jumbled tonality. Piano keys are used as an input for computer software, altering the sound and tonal mix, along with several other parameters.

Wexel presents his Sound by Sculpture, an installation containing 10 little machines that take you on a trip through a world of mechanics. The machines consist of a wooden pedestal that also acts as a resonator and a mechanism that is powered by a 220-volt-motor. Sound by Sculpture can be used to create a composition via mechanical sounds. The sounds of the machines are used as samples, created and operated live through a switchboard and an audio mixer. The aural world that is created by these sounds transcends the visible machinery and rises high above it, reminiscent of a monolithic factory.

Sonostruct~ presents AUDIBLE DUST
29-03-2009

Wednesday the 1st of april the kickoff edition of Sonostruct's Audible Dust will take place at SMART Project Space in Amsterdam.

Audible Dust is an evening where Sonostruct~ invites artists who are active in the audio or visual performance arts to come and play their work.
Next to the invitees, Sonostruct~ will also present their own work or that of the individual members.

On this first edtion we have the following acts:

-------

Dr Jacoby
[ Dr Jacoby's Mooie Muziek en ook nog zijn Bewegende Psychedelische Schilderijtjes ]

According to reports, at the time of Dr Jacoby's birth he could hardly stand or talk. Nowadays this is different: he improvises live with psychedelic electronica-deuntjes in combination with moving pictures which react to the music. In short: Dr Jacoby is a "puik" bit of marketing with balls of steel that has not met it's match in the psy-IDM-branche. Of course Bruce Springsteen does a pretty good job aswell.

Fever
[ Vocals and Sound Processing ]
By Sander Bolk, Ciska Vriesinga en Eline Vera.

Fever is an improvised performance, where voice is transformed using custom software to create an experimental and hybrid version of the jazz standard 'fever'
by Eline Vera, Sander Bolk and Ciska Vriezinga

Luc van Weelden - 'Blokgolven

[ Live electronics and digital videosynthesis performance // a piece for circuit bent telephone and OpenGL ]

Blokgolven was created by Luc van Weelden in April 2008 when he was invited by Peter van Bergen to do a solo performance at LOOS Studios in the DCR, The Hague. It is an improvisation piece for one performer, a circuit bent telephone and an interactive OpenGL environment. The interactivity of the video-environment forces the performer to constantly evaluate his own actions as every sound and control gesture are directly projected onto the control structure of the live generated video.
